READ ME – NO FREE PLUGS …unless its, well um FREE

Published on May 31, 2011, by in Blog.

If you post a comment and it has a link back to YOUR site I will remove the link, Why you ask? Well its quite simple, because my website is not to be used as a stepping stone to help improve your site rankings. I don’t do it on other sites and would appreciate it if you do not do it on mine. There are exceptions to this rule however If your site is 100% non-profit free as in bear and speech AND If you are linking to a site that not only relates to the subject in which you are posting BUT also needs to be relavant enough that there is something of added value to the subject and not just something we could get the gist of by just simple saying “my site”. Below are 2 examples of what is acceptable in a comment and not acceptable. Not a valid link example: “we were just discussing this exact issue over at my site www.mysite.com and blah blah blah”. Valid link example: “I see you

IIS Hacking Lockdown and ASP / SQL Injection Prevention Article Finished

I finally finished the article I started on locking down IIS to prevent the current round of IIS hacks that are going around. They seem to be spreading like wildfire and even well known companies are getting hacked left and right. This can all be prevented with the right security measures which I cover in the following article. http://www.davidorlo.com/?p=695

DavidOrlo.com Battle Plan – WordPress vs. CMS

New theme, New theme, New theme, I just cant make up my mind on a temporary theme. I plan to make my own theme based on several themes that I like but in the meantime I need something to run on the site that will be similar to my custom made theme so the content doesn’t look out of place once it is built. In addition to the theme dilemma I have another issue which is content organization. I just cant make up my mind on categories, sub categories and posts. I am used to working with Joomla and Xoops which are more article / news driven and not blog style like WordPress. The issues I keep running into are that my content is better suited on a CMS (Content Management System) website but instead I just keep using and tweaking a blog site to run like an article / news driven site. This obviously introduces issues such as categories, sub categories and posts, I will explain each in more detail and include why I continue

AutoIT coming to DavidOrlo.com

Published on July 25, 2010, by in AutoIT.

I love the AutoIT language as it is very easy to learn and extremely powerful. It seems every time I feel I have possibly outgrown the code and maybe I need to learn something else to do what I need to do, I am surprised with an update that allows AutoIT to do whatever it is I need to do. I started coding in the language back in 2003 before there was any GUI code. You could only do simple message boxes and after I wrote a ton of code which used .ini files for changes needed in the code, I decided I really needed a GUI to go public with my code so it would adapt to everyone. I just about gave up hope when an update / Beta was released featuring some very crude GUI functions. I quickly soaked up all the knowledge available on the new GUI code and released what is know today as Burnersware Rogue Bots. The “bots” were a success and I continued writing the programs until around 2007

Arduino & AutoIT sections added

Published on July 25, 2010, by in ~Site Updates~.

I just added a category for my beloved code AutoIT and my newest hobby / obsession the Arduino. I will start porting some of my code and projects I didn’t finish in AutoIT and even some good tutorials using the code once I get some other articles wrapped up. To learn more about AutoIT and if your curious what to expect in the new section check out the category I created and specifically the article labled “AutoIT coming to DavidOrlo.com”. The other new section “Arduino” will feature whatever projects I am working on with the Arduino and I will post as much as possible along the way to help others who are interested in the unique Italian micro controller project. As with anything new, there will always be a learning curve and hopefully I can ease the headache for anyone else interested in similar projects involving the Processing language and Arduino.

Site layout changes and category changes

Published on July 25, 2010, by in ~Site Updates~.

It seems nearly every week I am changing the layout of the categories and the website theme. It’s hard finding a theme I like that still has the features I need. One of these features I simply can’t live without is the sub-categories feature which not every theme offers. I really like the darker themes but I may end up sticking with the current iDream theme because it’s simple yet includes all of the features and the general layout I require. I apologize ahead of time for broken code while I am working on the site and learning how WordPress works on the back-end. If the site is down rest assured it will be back up within 24hrs. If you like a change or don’t like a change feel free to post a comment here or send me an e-mail directly. Thanks and I will keep the posts coming.
